The Climate Leaders Coalition welcomes Genesis CEO Malcolm Johns as the Coalition’s new convenor, succeeding Spark CEO Jolie Hodson MNZM.
Since 2018, the CEO-led Coalition, made up of 87 signatories and accounting for around 30 percent of New Zealand’s GDP, has helped to unite business on ambitious climate action and advocate for climate-positive policy settings from Government.
The Coalition is led by a steering group of eight signatories, with a CEO convenor at the helm.
Founding steering group signatory, Genesis CEO Malcolm Johns, says he is honoured to take up the role of convenor and continue the momentum built up during his predecessors’ tenure.
“The strength of our Coalition is in the diversity of our signatories. We all face different challenges, but we are united in our belief that the private and public sector must work together to achieve a net-zero future,” he says.
“To feel confident making climate-positive investment decisions, we need certainty from government. Businesses need meaningful policy which lives beyond our short political cycle, and we want to partner with the public sector to achieve this, with a focus on solutions businesses can offer.”
Outgoing CEO convenor Jolie Hodson will remain a steering group signatory, along with NZ Post Group CEO David Walsh, thinkstep-ANZ CEO Barbara Nebel, Z Energy CEO Lindis Jones, Toyota CEO Neeraj Lala, IAG CEO Amanda Whiting and OCS CEO Gareth Marriott.

Jolie Hodson says she looks forward to the new energy Malcolm’s appointment will bring to the Coalition.
