Join Us

With close to 90 signatories representing 32% of GDP, the Climate Leaders Coalition is a CEO-led community of like-minded businesses leading the way to a zero carbon and climate resilient future.

Joining the Coalition is a credible way of demonstrating your organisation’s climate leadership, as to join you must meet the minimum requirements set out in our Statement of Ambition and all Statement commitments by September 2025 at the latest.

Networking opportunities

We aim to hold at least one major in-person Coalition event each year, with smaller events throughout the year, including CEO-only events.

Adaptation Working Group

CLC members can participate in the SBC Adaptation Working Group. The group is co-chaired by IAG and brings together a number of organisations working to define what adaptation means for business, raise the profile of business adaptation, and increase adaptation capability across the memberships.

Mentoring programme

We operate an opt-in business to business mentoring programme which enables signatories to mentor or be mentored by other signatories on areas to advance their organisation’s climate action. This allows for peer-to-peer support.

Support to meet the Statement of Ambition

We release guidance to help signatories meet the Statement of Ambition requirements and continue to look for ways to facilitate opportunities for signatories to build their collective capability and understand good practice including through the monthly Masterclass series and the business-to-business mentoring programme.

Masterclass series

We hold monthly online Masterclasses, typically led by a signatory, which offer suggestions for best practice and accelerating progress. Topics covered enable signatories to build capability and support achievement of the Statement of Ambition requirements.

Championing signatories’ climate action

The Coalition is recognised publicly for its leadership, and signatories have access to Coalition-branded collateral to promote their involvement. Through our Snapshot Reports and across our digital channels, we amplify signatories' action and transparently demonstrate their progress on meeting the Statement of Ambition commitments.

Advocacy for effective climate action

We support Aotearoa’s climate commitments and work with SBC to promote the need for cross-party climate policy support needed to give businesses and communities the certainty needed to invest and transform. This includes consulting with signatories to develop submissions on key policies like the Emissions Reduction Plan and National Adaptation Plan.

Monthly updates

We send monthly updates to ensure our signatories are kept up to date about what’s happening in the Coalition, and more broadly in the climate change space.

Relationship with the Sustainable Business Council (SBC)

The Sustainable Business Council is our parent organisation and provides secretariat support to the Coalition. From 2020, the Coalition and SBC aligned their strategies to maximise impact, while maintaining their own distinct identities and purpose.

Sustainable Business Council

  • Covers the full spectrum of sustainability, including environmental (climate & increasingly nature), social (thriving people) and governance (leadership).
  • Has member commitments that actively demonstrate leadership in sustainable business and share a commitment to the balanced pursuit of economic growth, ecological integrity and social progress.
  • Provides a forum and tools for connection, collaboration, collective influence and capability building for New Zealand’s most ambitious sustainable businesses.

Climate Leaders Coalition

  • Focuses exclusively on climate (mitigation, adaptation, and transition).
  • Has a mandatory Statement of Ambition that signatories are transparently held to account for delivering on through an annual Snapshot Report. These commitments set the bar on what business climate leadership looks like across the three pillar of climate action (mitigation, adaptation and transition) and are more specific and ambitious than those of SBC.
  • Provides a forum and targeted engagement focussed around helping signatories to meet the Statement of Ambition.
