Meridian Energy is proud to be one of 60 businesses that today have signed the CEO Climate Change Statement, the first step taken by the Climate Leaders Coalition to drive positive change.
Meridian’s Chief Executive, Neal Barclay, says “It is pleasing to see the business community come together to recognise the impacts that climate change has and that by working together we have the opportunity to create a low-carbon future that is positive for business, the economy and all New Zealanders.”
The Climate Coalition is a Sustainable Business Council initiative, aimed at encouraging all businesses to see climate change as a critical business issue, but also as an opportunity for New Zealand. The Climate Leaders Coalition has been driven by company CEO’s passionate about taking action on climate change.
“The Climate Coalition supports our view that we can and must act on the opportunity to create a prosperous future for our customers, communities, our country and the planet,” says Neal.
“At Meridian, a key part of our role is to grow the proportion of renewable energy in our electricity system, and encourage the use of that clean energy to decarbonise the wider economy”.
By signing the CEO Climate Change Statement, Meridian is committed to continuing to measure and report greenhouse gas emissions and work with suppliers to reduce emissions, with the aim of helping to keep global warming within two degrees, as specified in the Paris Agreement.
