At KPMG, we are focused on fuelling the prosperity of New Zealand – for the benefit of all New Zealanders. It’s why we’re passionate about helping New Zealand’s businesses succeed, the public sector to achieve more, and our communities to grow.
We provide professional services across Audit, Tax and Advisory. Our clients trust us to deliver the kind of targeted advice, technical knowledge and industry insights that help them manage risk and embrace opportunities.
In order to achieve overall prosperity for New Zealand, we see the unavoidable need to transition to a low carbon economy. We are committed to our own emissions reduction journey and partnering with our clients on theirs.
KPMG is committed to the physical and social world around us by reducing our impact on the environment and increasing our positive impact on the communities we live in. This commitment is a pillar of our firm strategy and we challenge ourselves every day to do more and do better, and encourage our people and others to help “Fuel New Zealand’s Prosperity” at work, at home and in our communities.
Encourage awareness, empower change is our mission which drives our commitment to engagement, education and action. We have set ten 2020 goals across five environmental focus areas; waste and minimisation, transport, sustainable procurement, resource use and conservation, and healthy living.
With our emissions sitting at over 2.5tonnes per FTE, we recognise we have a long change journey ahead of us. However, we are optimistic that we can achieve a dramatic reduction and implement offsetting strategies for our unavoidable emissions.
We commit to achieving carbon neutrality by 2030 and working with our suppliers to work with us on this journey to meet our targets and instil targets of their own. We are currently ahead in our journey as we gear up to publish our environmental goals for the first time in our 2018 Citizenship Report.
Our emissions figures to date have been reported in our Citizenship Report since 2012. Our 2018 Citizenship report will be the public release of our 2018-2020 Environmental Strategy which includes climate change and emissions reduction goals.

Most plastic is made from non-renewable petrochemicals. The extraction process and conversion into plastic releases carbon into the atmosphere, adding to climate change. So in 2014 we challenged ourselves to find a packaging alternative that goes beyond reducing emissions, and actually takes carbon out of the atmosphere. We found a packaging solution that can help to combat climate change. It’s plastic made from sugarcane.
