Climate Leaders Coalition New Statement Of Ambition

Statement from Auckland Transport Interim Chief Executive Mark Lambert:

Auckland Transport is proud to support the New Statement of Ambition being launched tonight by the Climate Leaders Coalition.

We’re delighted that AT’s work to achieve the outcomes agreed by the Climate Leaders Coalition has been recognised as ‘best practise’ and highlighted as a case study.

The case study focuses on our work with KPMG to comprehensively assess and prioritise climate change risk and opportunities, and to use insights gathered to strengthen our risk management framework.

Alongside this work we’ve also worked closely with mana whenua to develop Hikina te Wero, a plan which outlines how AT is protecting and restoring our natural environment through our transport planning and infrastructure projects.

Through partnerships with our public transport operators we have accelerated the decarbonisation of our bus and ferry fleets, with orders now in place for Auckland’s first electric ferries and for 152 additional battery electric buses which will reduce our bus fleet emissions by about 10,000 tonnes each year.

We’re also actively supporting Auckland Council in implementing Te Tāruke-ā-Tāwhiri: Auckland’s Climate Plan. This includes supporting development of the Transport Emission Reduction Pathway for Tāmaki Makaurau.

Finally, we make it easy for our people to make sustainable transport choices every day by providing AT HOP cards as staff ID cards, end of trip facilities for our people who walk, run and cycle to work, and by deliberately not providing parking for any AT staff member, including our executive leadership team.
